Haifa Mahabir, PhD
Haifa Mahabir is a political and socio-legal theorist whose work examines the relationship between empire, law, and political power. She completed her PhD in Postcolonial Studies at the University of Kent at Canterbury, where her research explored the imperial foundations of emergency rule and modern state sovereignty.
Haifa’s scholarship is informed by nearly twenty years of engaging with, working on, and researching the question of Palestine, including nearly a decade of research and fieldwork in the occupied Palestinian territories. During this time she served as a policy analyst with the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Fateh Foreign Relations Commission under the guidance of Husam Zomlot, now Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the United Kingdom.
Alongside her academic work, Haifa is a writer whose work has appeared in both literary and scholarly venues. She is a Creative Writing Fellow of the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
